This small traditional style bush-camp is set just south of the central Mfuwe area and is the closest of the Bushcamp Company camps to Mfuwe. 4 reed and thatch huts are set close to the Mansi sand river a short distance from where it joins the Luangwa. This is predominantly a walking camp although drives are offered as well.
Whilst the walking areas close to this camp are excellent it is your hosts that are likely to make the experience at Kuyenda so memorable. Phil Berry and his partner Babette Alfieri have been running this camp since they left Chinzombo in the mid 90’s, Phil is simply a mine of information, whilst he no longer conducts many of the walks from camp himself he is far and away the Luangwa’s most experienced guide. Many of his 50 odd years in the Luangwa have been spent studying the wildlife and its habits.
The camp is probably only about 45 minutes drive south of Mfuwe Lodge although the transfer is likely to be done as a game-drive and will take longer, as soon as you arrive in the camp you appreciate that you have left the relatively busy Mfuwe area behind and are now really in the bush. The rustic atmosphere of the camp helps with this impression as Kuyenda really is one of those traditionally Zambian bush-camps.
